Campaign “Children Helping Children”: 24 Years of Humanity and Joy

For nearly a quarter of a century, young hearts in Germany have been lighting up the lives of children in need through the heartfelt campaign Aktion Kinder helfen Kindern (“Children Helping Children”). This remarkable initiative, organized by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Germany, has become a cherished tradition that teaches children the values of kindness, generosity, and global solidarity.

In the spirit of the 2024 Christmas season, an incredible 4,050 beautifully wrapped packages, each filled with love and essential items, have been collected and are now on their way to brighten the lives of children in Kosovo. Through ADRA Kosovo, these gifts will reach young recipients, offering them not just material support, but also a message of care, hope, and friendship.

A Tradition of Giving Since 2000

What started as a small act of kindness in the year 2000 has flourished into a powerful movement of generosity. The Children Helping Children campaign was initially launched with the simple yet profound goal of bringing smiles to the faces of children in Eastern Europe. That first year, 650 children in Bulgaria received aid through thoughtfully prepared “action packages.”

Year after year, this initiative has grown, uniting thousands of children across Germany who eagerly take part in packing gifts filled with school supplies, toys, warm clothing, and sweets. The joy of giving has become a cherished experience for them, fostering a deep understanding of empathy and the power of sharing.

“The children are especially happy about these gifts,” said the program coordinators. “Many children in Germany have an abundance of things, and they are eager to share with those who need them the most. It’s a beautiful way for them to learn about kindness and the joy of giving.”

What makes this campaign even more special is that it allows children to directly impact the lives of their peers. Every package is not just a bundle of items—it is a heartfelt message of love and solidarity from one child to another.

Where Do the Gifts Go?

Over the years, these heartfelt packages have traveled across borders, reaching children in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Belarus. Each year, new destinations are included, ensuring that the warmth of generosity reaches as many children as possible.

However, the impact of Children Helping Children extends far beyond these seasonal gifts. What once began as a single campaign has evolved into long-term projects that address the deeper needs of children and their families. Through ADRA’s dedicated efforts, support is provided in the form of education, healthcare, and essential supplies, ensuring that children receive not just momentary happiness, but lasting opportunities for a brighter future.
